Apple Announces iOS CarPlay Infotainment System
Apple has announced CarPlay at the Geneva Motor Show; it is an in-car infotainment system that lets you connect your iOS device with your car. CarPlay is a rebranding of “iOS in the Car,” will be shown at the Geneva Motor Show, held from Mar. 6 to 16, 2014.
CarPlay will have an interface similar to iOS 7 and it provide drivers with an incredible experience using their iPhone in the car. CarPlay will let iPhone users make calls, access messages, listen to music or use Maps in their cars using Siri-based voice control, touch controls, or standard knobs, dials and buttons in the car. Third party apps such as Spotify, Beats Radio, Stitcher and iHeartRadio are also supported.
CarPlay will be available sometime this year in unknown models from the Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo. Other automakers like BMW, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai Motor Company, Jaguar, Land Rover, Kia, Mitsubishi, Nissan, PSA Peugeot Citroën, Subaru, Suzuki and Toyota will be rolling out CarPlay-compatible cars down the road.
